Karkidaka Oushadha Kanji / Marunnu Kanji

Karkidaka Oushadha Kanji / Marunnu Kanji is a herbal porridge recipe of Kerala that is taken during the Karkidakam Month of Malayalam Calendar (July-August), where the monsoons are in full swing. Monsoons always bring in some seasonal flu, cold and other ailments. To keep ourselves protected from monsoon fevers and keep our body rejuvenated this is taken as a course (usually 7 days and some may take it for 21 days too). It has a mix of unique ingredients and herbal mix which is known to improve the immunity of our body as per Ayurveda, and it can be taken by all age groups. It also acts as an excellent detox. I buy the Marunnu Podi / Herbal Mix from Kerala which has a blend of Dashamoola, Trikatu, and Dashapushpa Choornams.

My Kanji mix has the following:

  • Navara Rice (Red Rice of Kerala)
  • Garden Cress Seeds / Halim Seeds (Ashali)
  • Fenugreek Seeds
  • Moong Dhall
  • Peppercorns
  • Cumin Seeds
  • Carom Seeds

If you prefer you can add Palm Jaggery for sweet version but we prefer the plain version more.
