Kachil Puzhungiyathu & Spicy Mulaku Chammanthi

A common and a staple food of malabar made with home grown yam, a very heavenly combo of Kachil Puzhungiyathu with Spicy Mulaku Chammanthi that I learnt from my husband’s aunt in Kerala.

Kachil  (in Malayalam) Rasavalli Kizhangu (Tamil) is botanically called Dioscorea alata commonly known as Purple Yam. Steamed Purple yam is considered to be a healthy dish like Steamed Tapioca and is served with red chilli Chutney or green chilli Chutney (Check out my green chilli version). It has good amounts of oxalates and it used as a mild laxative.

I got this from our home in Kerala and with the Chillies from farm. A deadly combo to relish and this Chutney is also served with Kappa Puzhungiyathu (Steamed Tapioca). Try and let me know your feedback. This chammanthi can be served with rice, idly and dosa, also can be used as a spread for chapatti roll.
