A very unusual Keerai that we get from villages rarely with the Green Vendors here in our Maraimalai Nagar evening market, TharaiPasalai Keerai / Sirupasalai Keerai (Portulaca). The granny who brings these medicinal greens in very small quantities (கூறு ). It gets sold soon after she displays them. Luckily I got a bunch this time and I have made this yummy Paruppu Kadayal.
This greens are very very small ones and creep on the ground. It has tiny alternately placed leaves on a tender pink stems. It is not easy to separate the leaves so it can be used as a whole after thorough washing in a colander. It has a strong scent and the flavour of this curry will be very appetising.

It has a lot of medicinal benefits as told by that granny, especially in curing intestinal ulcers.

We can make Kootu, Sambar also with this Keerai. But I find this as the best way to get all the benefits of the Keerai. When you get a chance, do not miss to try this recipe.
